As an elected
official, I am always on the go. Going from receptions to banquets, or
just eating on the run: with no thought of eating right, or eating to
live. One day. During my constant running, my body said, “enough,”
and caused me to feel faint and unstable. I was rushed to the hospital
where I needed emergency care.
When you’re
in intensive care, you have an opportunity to think about some of the
habits and things that must change. Thinking on these things, I recalled
a dynamic presentation I attended on juicing—but more importantly—the
value of eating right. This presenter, Kevin Hawkins (founder of Juice
to Live), easily demonstrated how things we think are good for us are
actually some of the root causes of our health challenges. For example,
I have always been a constant “store bought” brand juice drinker.
Orange juice, cranberry juice—I thought were good for my health.
However, through Kevin’s presentation I discovered that each of
these products had considerable concentrations of high fructose. High
fructose is extremely damaging to your kidneys and can cause extreme sugar
problems. I also had to re-evaluate my eating habits and saw that my diet
contained few nutrients.
Now I have
lost weight, am more active, and eat better. I am grateful to Kevin’s
teaching and his advocacy for informed eating. I wholly endorse his new
venture for healthy eating, and I encourage others to listen and take
part in what he has to offer.
